We are seeking a skilled Fiber Designer with strong experience in both coaxial and fiber optic network design. The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of hands-on design experience and be proficient in using AutoCAD, QGIS, and Google Earth (KMZ/KML) for telecom design projects. This role involves creating accurate and buildable designs, ensuring compliance with client and industry standards, and supporting project teams with high-quality deliverables.

This role is primarily office-based, with occasional travel as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and prepare fiber optic and coaxial network designs for new builds, upgrades, and maintenance projects.
  • Create construction drawings, as-builts, and permit packages using AutoCAD and GIS tools.
  • Work with QGIS and Google Earth (KMZ/KML) to analyze routes, generate design maps, and prepare documentation.
  • Perform network path analysis, including aerial and underground plant, splice points, nodes, and node splits.
  • Collaborate with engineers, field teams, and project managers to ensure accuracy and constructability of designs.
  • Review redlines, field notes, and survey data to update and maintain accurate design records.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, client specifications, and local permitting requirements.
  • Maintain version control and organized documentation for design packages.
Qualifications:
  • 3–5 years of experience in fiber and coaxial network design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, QGIS, and Google Earth (KMZ/KML files). Comparable tools are also considered.
  • Understanding of OSP (Outside Plant) telecom design standards and construction practices.
  • Knowledge of aerial and underground routing, splicing, node design, and node splits.
  • Ability to read and interpret utility maps, construction prints, and field survey data.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with permitting requirements and local jurisdiction standards is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, GIS, or related field preferred (or equivalent work experience).
Preferred Extras:
  • Experience with ArcGIS, MicroStation, or other design/GIS platforms.
  • Knowledge of fiber splicing diagrams, OTDR traces, and network documentation tools.
  • Familiarity with FTTH, HFC, and backbone network architectures.
